The author's best advice comes in chapter 8: He advises aspiring novelists to join a "destructive group" that will tear your novel apart. That way you'll get ideas how Good Books On How To Write A Novel rewrite it and make it better. He even gives advice to those who don't have a "destructive group" and must make do with their friends or even just themselves as critics.
And that advice is valuable. You might not think of it yourself. But still I don't know how anyone will ever learn to write by reading books on how to write. Possibly, perhaps, reading the now numerous books on how to become a novelist make each discourse appear to have a touch of magic, but there are elements other than pure literary style at play: Frey's contribution, however, surpasses all these boundaries, for he's not only been well published but teaches the subject for Academia. That's fast for me. I'm on to volume II next. It reads very easily.
